CBT for Nicotine Cessation

Educational content only. Combine CBT with clinician‑guided pharmacotherapy where appropriate. See our Medical Disclaimer.

CBT strategies

  • Trigger mapping: times, places, emotions linked to smoking/vaping.
  • Cue control: remove lighters/ashtrays; change routines; avoid hot spots.
  • Delay/distract: 10‑minute delays with replacement routines.

Journaling prompts

  1. Trigger → urge (0–100) → delay/distract used → outcome.
  2. Replacement routine that helped (walk, water, call, gum).
  3. Support used today (medication, buddy, group) and effect.

Use alongside treatment plan; see How to Journal.
